How To Journal For Anxiety

What is Journaling?

Journaling is the act of writing down your thoughts and feelings. It’s extremely beneficial for people who feel like their mind races. Since you can only write down one thing at a time, you can only focus on one thing at a time. (How nice does that sound!) This slowing down of your mind will help you feel less anxious and provide you some relief. Writing down and venting all your negative thoughts will also make you feel a little better, too!

How I Journal:

What I like to do, and have found helpful, is write down my major “worries” or obsessive thoughts. I make a list down the page of everything that’s bothering me. Seeing them written down helps me stay objective and recognize that some of my issues are much smaller than I think.

Next, I come up with some positive outcomes to these worries. What’s the best case scenario? How often do my worries end up better than expected? If my worry does come true, what are some solutions?

Lastly, I like to finish my journaling with some things I’m grateful for. It’s important to train your brain to think about the positive things in life. Gratitude has been shown to help positively shape your brain.

Journaling is beneficial for everyone. If you suffer from general anxiety , social anxiety, or even depression you can benefit.

There’s no right or wrong way to journal!

Here are some journal prompts to help you delve deeper into your anxious thoughts.
