What Can Yoga Do For You

Improves Mood

Yoga has been shown over and over to benefit those who suffer from general anxiety and depression. Its focus on exercise, meditation/mindfulness and deep breathing make it a powerful technique.

In a recent study conducted by NYU, 54% of those who practiced yoga saw improved anxiety symptoms. Another study conducted by AAFP also showed that those who practiced yoga saw reduced symptoms of anxiety/depression as well as a reduction of panic symptoms.

However, yoga is not a ‘quick fix’ and shouldn’t be used as a lone form of anxiety/depression treatment. Both researches suggest using it as a complimentary technique paired with some form of therapy, CBT in particular, for optimal benefits.

Improves Brain Function

Not only has it been shown to help boost your mood but yoga has also been shown to help improve cognitive function and memory. According to a study from Harvard, people who regularly practice yoga have a thicker cerebral cortex (the area of the brain responsible for information processing) and hippocampus (the area of the brain involved in learning and memory).

As you can see, there are many positive benefits from yoga!
