What Is Gratitude
Community Submission!
We have our first community submission! Thank you for your technique, Aliana! We are very grateful to have you a part of this community.
Speaking of being grateful, Aliana wants us to share her technique that helped improve her anxiety: practicing gratitude.
What Is Gratitude
Gratitude is the expression of appreciation for what you have. It’s the conscious effort of being thankful and counting one’s blessings. You can be grateful for anything: family, friends, animals, nature, etc.
What Are Its Benefits
Many studies have found that people who practice gratitude tend to be happier and less depressed. These studies show that there is an important social and personal benefit to gratefulness. Psychologists find that practicing gratitude over time helps curb negative self talk and boosts happiness.
Ways To Cultivate Gratitude
• Each day, think of three things you’re thankful for
• Start a gratitude journal. Write down something your thankful for everyday
• Thank someone new every week. This could be a non-verbal communication (thanking them mentally to yourself), writing a thoughtful message, or saying thank you with a nice gift or gesture.
Aliana’s Gratitude Exercise
Every morning when you wake up, think of 2 things you’re thankful for.
Every night before bed, think of at least one positive thing that happened that day.
